Wedding Spotlight:

Paige & Scott

If you know Scott and I,  then you know that we live up to the old adage that “opposites attract.” He is from New York and I am from Mississippi. He’s a picky eater, but I will eat anything you put in front of me. We are opposites, however, we are both laid-back people and share interests like going to the beach. We both don’t like drama or anything entirely formal, therefore a beach wedding was a perfect choice for us.

Scott and I first met on a plane in New York about six years ago.  The plane was returning to Atlanta where we both lived at the time.  He asked for my number, but I intentionally gave him the wrong number.  I happened to mention where I went to church during our plane ride, so he went to my church every weekend for nearly three months trying to find me, among his real reason for attending.

His persistence paid off, and he finally found me. At this point I gave him the correct phone number, and after a few months of phone calls, I agreed to go out on a date with him.

In 2003, Scott was transferred to Los Angeles where he lived for three years, but we stayed in touch as friends. By 2005, we realized we really were meant to be together and decided to reunite in the same city, Washington D.C.  He eventually would be transferred to D.C., and I had a triplet sister and a best friend there, so the decision was simple. After living in the same city for a little more than a year, Scott proposed on March 23, 2007.

I knew I didn’t want a long engagement, but I wondered if a wedding could really be planned by that fall. My mother quickly assured me that it was possible! Knowing our personalities, I researched several beach locations. I chose Eden on Perdido Key because of the serenity of the beach, the lush tropical landscaping, the mild September weather, and the affordability and ease of travel for all of our guests.

My mother and I planned the majority of the wedding over Memorial Day weekend while I was visiting her at my parent’s condo at Eden on Perdido Key. We had quite an experience trying to find a wedding dress. We went to several places with no success at all.  However, when I walked into the Bridal Loft and explained my vision to Brenda and her staff, she handed me several dresses that were exactly what I envisioned. The second dress I tried on was “the one”. It was beautiful, simple and perfect for an ocean-side wedding. The details of my beach wedding fell into place.

September 15, 2007 was a magnificent day. No hurricanes. The sky was bright blue. The temperature was mild and the humidity was low. We had 130 guests travel from all over the states to support us and celebrate with us. The wedding weekend was stress free! The simplicity of planning a beach wedding, catching up with family and friends, a beautiful rehearsal dinner at Lost Key Golf Club, bridesmaid and groomsmen luncheons, and the laid-back beach environment made my wedding day the most memorable day of my life.
